World No Tobacco Day

The World Health Organization started No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the risks of tobacco, which include disease and death.
So, do yourself a favor and use today as an opportunity to put down the cigarettes and pick up a cake pop instead!

Water a Flower Day

Flower cake pops are among my favorites to make, which might make today's holiday one of the best because with it brings the promise of more flowers to to come.
So, go water your favorite flower today because you never know...it just might sprout a cake pop!

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day!

Indianapolis 500 Day

Start your engines!
Today is the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500.
Even though we're not huge race car fans at our house, we're not about to get left in the dust.
So, sit down, buckle up, and we'll see you at the finish line.
First one there gets the checkered cake pop!

National Hamburger Day

Tasty in a way that a real hamburger could never be, the cake pop hamburger is actually quite delicious!
The "Bun" is cake covered in tinted candy melts, with sesame seeds sprinkled on top.
The "Meat" is also chocolate cake.
The "Lettuce" is coconut tinted green.
The "Cheese" is a flattened orange Tootsie Roll.
And the "Ketchup" is Wilton Decorating Gel.
Put it all together and you've got a very yummy cake pop hamburger, or perhaps a fun little slider, if you will.

Now, of course hamburgers aren't really made with ham. And some of you may even know that it actually gets its name from Hamburg, Germany, where it was created. Of course, it didn't become the hamburger we all know and love until Americans started serving it on a bun with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, grilled onions, mushrooms, BBQ sauce, etc.

In our house we are partial to Bobby Flay's Trattoria Burger.
It's fairly simple and inspired from an Italian classic;
Meat, Mozzarella, Tomato, Basil, drizzled with Olive Oil and Vinegar.
I can't think of a better way to celebrate today!

National Grape Popsicle Day

Ah...the Grape Popsicle.
A childhood favorite, perfect for those hot summer days that are sure to be just around the corner.
There’s nothing like a homemade grape popsicle; except when you have a homemade cake pop to go with it!

The story goes that Frank Epperson, an 11-year-old boy, was the inventor of the Popsicle. I'm sure his mother was none too pleased when he left soda water with a stirring stick in it on the porch overnight, where it froze. However, I'm sure she forgave him when 18 years later he started a business selling what would later be called, the "popsicle".

Farwell Oprah

What's better than a double celebration day?
How about a "Triple Whammy Wednesday!"
That's right. Three cake pops, one special day.

Since today is Oprah's final show we thought we'd honor her with a post published at her regularly scheduled time in the northwest, and send her off in style...cake pop style that is! It was tricky to capture the essence of Oprah, but hopefully you get the idea.

Oprah's show was one of my favorite things, and hopefully if she ever saw my cake pops, they would be one of hers.

"And you get a cake pop, and you get a cake pop, and you get a cake pop!"

Thanks, Oprah, for being there all of these years!

Cookie Monster's Birthday

It's a double celebration day!

Even though the Muppets officially like to recognize Cookie Monster’s Birthday as November 2, it looks like it is also recognized on May 25, which is the birthday of the beloved Frank Oz, one of Jim Henson's most famous puppeteers.

While researching information for Cookie Monster's B-day, I happened upon another great website Alphamom.com. They feature all kinds of great crafts, recipes, etc, which is where I found the cute sock puppet you see below, as well as a great cookie recipe we'll be trying out today.

Escargot Day

Happy Escargot Day!
I can't say that I've ever had escargot before. Some consider it a delicacy, but the thought of snails never sounded very appetizing. However, these little guys are actually kind of cute, so perhaps I should reconsider.

Taffy Day

Cake pops and taffy. It doesn't get much better than this!
Happy Taffy Day!

Buy a Musical Instrument Day

This cake pop drum set is probably the closest thing we'll ever have to drums in our house, so I suppose my boys will have to make do. But this little cake pop person is pleased. He'll be bringing out his rocker side today!

Happy Armed Forces Day!
Today we're paying our respects to all of the Armed Forces, both locally and around the world.
Thank you for all that you do!

Bike to Work Day

It appears that our cake pop friend from just the other day has finished his morning workout and is ready to hop on his bike. It's "Bike to Work Day", and while his bicycle is made out of chocolate and Oreos, at least we know his intentions are good and that he's trying to set an example for all of us!

May Ray Day

Just in the nick of time!
May Ray Day is meant to signal the start of sunny weather, and how perfect, because here we are in the middle of our first week of sunny days and higher temps.
Everything just seems better when the sun is shining!

Employee Health and Fitness Day

The third Wednesday in May is National Employee Health and Fitness Day. This little cake pop is sporting a Fruit Roll-Up headband so as not to sweat all over the cake pop weights. He's hitting the gym today.
How about you?

World Hypertension Day

Hopefully you are eating cake pops in moderation.
We wouldn't want you to have high blood pressure.
Happy World Hypertension Day!

Wear Purple for Peace Day

One might think that "Wear Purple for Peace Day" was meant for spreading peace around the world or in your neighborhood, but that’s not quite it.

The national day was established out of fear of aliens thinking that earthlings are too hostile. The goal of today is to make the world a peaceful place and, of course, encourage alien species to make contact with earth.
Strange, right?

Here are a couple of cheerful earthlings doing what they can to spread peace and love today!

Today we'll celebrate with chocolate chip mint cake pops.
Simple, classic, and most importantly, tasty!

Chicken Dance Day

These cake pops were fun to make. I used a candy mold for the faces and I think they turned out pretty cute.
The chicks are getting into it and you should to.
Everyone do the Chicken Dance!

Sing it with me...
Duh-Duh Duh-Duh Duh-Duh Duh.
Duh-Duh Duh-Duh Duh-Duh Duh.

Hug Your Cat Day

We're a dog family and don't actually have any feline friends in our house, but that won't stop us from celebrating today.
On this special day we take the time to remember all of the cuddly kitties that we've known throughout the years!

Wild Card Wednesday...Sandcastle Day at Ocean Shores

It's a Wild Card Wednesday.....
Sandcastle Day at Ocean Shores!

We're at the ocean this week, so I figured there was no better way to honor our favorite Washington vacation spot than to name a day after it! We enjoy the beach and the boys love making sandcastles and just digging in the sand.

My kids especially loved these cake pops because they are covered in sugar and topped with a Fruit Roll-Up flag!

This family pic was taken at the ocean a couple years ago. Notice the shovel in hand!

And this one was taken just yesterday. They grow so fast but are always so happy at the ocean!

Lost Sock Memorial Day

We all know that socks can be the trickiest part of any load of laundry. They have that tendency to lose their mates, resulting in a whole drawer full of sad singles.

So today, as you look over all the solo socks you've been hanging on to, pay your respects to the ones you've loved and lost!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

We're having a taco party!
The tacos were much easier to make then you might think.
The shells are made from melted yellow candy melts sprinkled with Oreo crumbs. Spread the melted candy melt on wax paper, and then form by bending as it dries. Once the "taco shell" is formed, place a small piece of cake in the middle and drizzle chocolate over the top for the "meat". The "lettuce" is coconut tinted green, the "cheese" is shredded orange candy melt, and the "tomato" is sour spaghetti candy.
Easy!
I recommend washing these tasty treats down with a margarita.

Star Wars Day

This day is considered an unofficial holiday by Star Wars fans to celebrate Star Wars culture and remember the films.
Since the phrase "May the Force be with you" is a famous quote often spoken in the films, fans commonly say "May the fourth be with you" on this day.

Yoda, Chewbacca and Darth Vader.
The gang's all here!

The boys were trying to help come up with some good movie title tie-ins...

I think I might join her!
