National Trail Mix Day

It's National Trail Mix Day!

Today is about enjoying the fun, delicious snack that has been popular with hikers for years.

If you've never had this healthy treat, let today be the day you learn how to make at least one of the many varieties. Or better yet, try making your very own Trail Mix Pop!

I held these together with melted marshmallow,
just like a Rice Krispy Treat.
Surprisingly very tasty!

So, pack a few Trail Mix Pops in with the rest of your lunch, and get in one last good hike before summer is officially over and the kids are back in school.

Tuesday's Tunes... Michael Jackson

It's another edition of:
Tuesday's Tunes!

Today we celebrate the one and only
Michael Jackson.

Being that yesterday was his 53rd birthday, today seemed like the perfect time to feature my husband's all-time favorite artist.

My husband is undoubtedly the biggest MJ fan you or anyone will ever meet, so it goes without saying that just about every day there is some version of a Michael song echoing throughout our home.

I could talk at length about the influence Michael Jackson has had on this household and the world over, but for now, I think I'll just leave it by saying...
Long live the King!

It's National Lemon Juice Day!

Just about everything tastes better with a little
lemon juice squeezed over the top.

Even these lemon cake pops get an extra kick
with the added juice!

It's National Cherry Turnover Day!

These sweet pastries can be served for breakfast or dessert. Now that's a treat worth celebrating!

There are several variations of the classic cherry turnover. Some recipes call for cream cheese, extra lemon juice,
or ice cream.

As you might have guessed, we like ours pop style!
So, celebrate today with your favorite version and indulge
your taste buds with this delicious treat!

Banana Lover's Day

Happy Banana Lover's Day!

Did you know the average person eats about 33 lbs of bananas a year? It's true!
However, that must mean I am far from average because they are among my least favorite foods.

Bananas are high in fiber and potassium, though I'm not so sure the same thing can be said about these cake pops.

But today is the day for all banana lovers to unite and celebrate this nutritious treat. So, don't monkey around, grab a banana (or a cake pop) and enjoy!

Daffodil Day

It's Daffodil Day!

The Daffodil is the international symbol of hope for all touched by cancer, so today is about giving hope to a brighter, cancer-free future.

The American Cancer Society hosts "Daffodil Days", which is a program to fight back by raising funds and awareness to help beat cancer.

No one is immune, and nearly everyone knows someone who has been affected by this disease. Unfortunately, it has affected our family in many ways, so today is especially important to us.

Flower cake pops are among my favorite to make, and these Daffodil pops have found a nice home in a small garden in my backyard!

National Kiss and Make Up Day

Today is the day to Kiss and Make Up!

Rise above the arguments and realize that
it's okay to say you're sorry.
If you're stuck in a spat with the one you love,
I'm sure a big ole smooch will help ease the tension!

And if that doesn't work, offer them a Lips Cake Pop and see if that doesn't at least put a smile on their face!

    National Peach Pie Day

There's nothing more American than Pie,
and Peach Pie is the quintessential dessert of the South.

Today we appreciate the great taste all the goodness of homemade peach pie!

If you've had it before, you know what I'm talking about. And if you've never experienced this tasty treat, now is the time!

So, let today be the day you indulge your
sweet tooth by having two desserts:
A slice of Peach Pie, and a Peach Pie Cake Pop!

    National Sponge Cake Day

    It's National Sponge Cake Day!

Do you know what makes my "sponge" cake
    different than any other?
Mine is inspired by the guy who lives
in a pineapple under the sea!

    SpongeBob SquarePants!
Absorbent and yellow and porous is he!

Even though a classic sponge cake contains beaten eggs, sugar, and flour, I've decided to be more literal.

So, go out and buy or bake a traditional
    sponge cake if you must.
Or, like me, try making your very own "Sponge" Cake Pop.
    Get it?!?

    National Be An Angel Day

It's National Be An Angel Day!
The point of today is to simply help others in need.

This is a non-denominational observance that encourages people to perform random acts of kindness.
Every small act of generosity matters.

So, take the time to be an angel to someone.
Extend a helping hand, offer a kind word,
    or show someone your gratitude.

You know, like if you see someone with out a cake pop, hand them one.
    They'll love you forever!

    Senior Citizen's Day

    We're back!
    What's UP?!?
After a great week of Flashback Favorites, it's time to blaze ahead to the second half of the year.

Today is Senior Citizen's Day, and is a day to recognize and show appreciation for the elderly in our society.

I'm honoring one of our favorite senior citizen Disney characters, which is the crotchety old Carl Fredricksen from the Disney Pixar movie, Up.

Hopefully this cake pop will put a smile on your face,
and if we're lucky, maybe we'll even put one on
    old man Fredricksen's too!

    Wild Card Wednesday...
    Dick's Drive-In: Dick-O-Rama Day

    Celebrated: June 22, 2011

Another in a line of great Wild Card Wednesdays.
We were fortunate enough to get picked up and mentioned by the good people at Dick's Drive-In, which helped make our readership spike in a big way that day.

I think we had such a positive response because it struck a chord locally and we had a great story to tell.

Plus, not to mention the fact that Dick's food rocks!
Just looking at this makes me hungry.
    I need a Dick's cheeseburger ASAP!

    Flashback Favorite: Lucille Ball Day

    Flashback Favorite #6:
    Lucille Ball Day
    Celebrated: August 6, 2011

I made this one less than two weeks ago, but it quickly became one of my favorites!
I really just thought this one was adorable and loved
how perfectly the old doll house furniture worked
    for the backdrop.
I think we did Lucy proud on this day.

Next year I'll have to try and make a
    Ricky Ricardo cake pop too!

Flashback Favorite: Eat Your Vegetables Day

    Flashback Favorite #5:
    Eat Your Vegetables Day
    Celebrated: June 17, 2011

This post is one of my personal favorites.
The cake pops used here were actually the same pops used in the post the day before, which was Fresh Veggies Day. We just took a bunch of different pictures the day
    they were all made.

I really thought this picture turned out well because everything looked so fresh and so life like.

It almost made me want to eat vegetables for real...almost.

    Flashback Favorite #4:
Wild Card Wednesday - Mini Van Mom Day
    Celebrated: February 23, 2011

The Wild Card Wednesday that started it all!
This one was near and dear to my heart,
so I tried to have a lot of fun with it.

I remember really not wanting to do International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, the holiday that was on that day.

That got me thinking that I was probably going to come up against a few more like that along the way, which sparked the whole idea of Wild Card Wednesdays.

And I'm glad it did, because I think they've inspired
    some of the best posts!

    Flashback Favorite #3:
    Tuesday's Tunes... Counting Crows
    Celebrated: June 7, 2011

This was the first Tuesday's Tunes, and for me, still remains my favorite post so far in the series.
I love how the crow cake pops turned out,
and I remember spending quite a bit of time constructing the tree for them to perch upon.

The Counting Crows are actually coming to the Puyallup Fair next month and I'm really hoping I can go.
I wonder if I should bring them some cake pops?

    Flashback Favorite #2:
    7-Eleven - Slurpee Day
    Celbrated: July 11, 2011

I really do actually love 7-11 Slurpees, so it's always great when I get to make something I'm really excited and passionate about.

This post was one of our most popular, likely due to the awesome 7-11 promotion that day.

Did you get your free Slurpee?

    Flashback Favorite: Sushi Day

    Flashback Favorite #1:
    International Sushi Day

    Celebrated: June 18, 2011

This was by far one of my more artistic cake pops.
I really liked putting this one together and incorporating all of the different elements.
Of all the cake pops I've done, I thought this looked most like the thing I was trying to replicate.

I still have yet to try real sushi!

    Today's actual holiday is:
National Creamsicle Day (and my 30th birthday!).

    Gone Snorkeling

    Hello, Dear Readers!

Even though today is National Garage Sale Day (one of my favorite past times), I am using today's post to let you know that I am taking a short break.

I'm taking this time to look back at the first six months of this little cake pop adventure I've created.

Starting tomorrow, and all of next week, I will be bringing back my personal favorite posts, and offering a little bit of insight into each, in a series of:
    "Flashback Favorites".

Today's cake pop, however, is actually something that I plan on doing in the very near future.
    Snorkeling!
Tomorrow is my 30th birthday and I love to snorkel. So, today's cake pop celebrates ME doing what I love on my big day!

So, I hope you enjoy the look back at some of the classics.
I promise I will be back with brand new posts to resume on Sunday, August 21.

    See ya soon!

    Kool-Aid Day

    Oh Yeah!
    It's Kool-Aid Day!

Break down a door, plow through a fence,
or bust through a wall and get your Kool-Aid on this wonderful day!

The "Kool-Aid Days" festival is held every year on the second full weekend of August in Hastings, Nebraska, where this delicious product was originated.

    Great family fun with Kool-Aid.
    Oh Yeah!

Just one of many classic vintage commercials we found.
    Nobody does it like Kool-Aid!

National Play in the Sand Day

It's hard to beat playing in the sand.
Whether it's building a sandcastle on a sunny beach, or playing with your kids in a sandbox in the backyard,
you can be entertained for hours!

For today's pops, I'm featuring a few things
you can do in the sand or on a beach.

You've got surfboards riding the waves,
flip flops to keep your feet cool on the hot beach,
or just sitting back and relaxing with a piña colada.

No matter what you're doing, these cake pops
    will make a big splash!

    National S'mores Day

Who says you need a campfire to enjoy a S'more?

Mixing it up a bit, I left the cake out of this one
and created a basic marshmallow pop that included
    all of the good stuff:
Marshmallow, dipped in melted chocolate, sprinkled with Graham Cracker - no toasting needed!

In researching today, I found a great link to a some amazing S'mores recipes that look oh, so mouthwatering.

They will definitely leave you wanting...S'more!

    Book Lover's Day

Attention all Book Lovers - Today is your day!

There's nothing like getting lost in a really good book.
Unfortunately, reading can often be one of those things we don't do enough of, but today you don't have any excuse.

So, dust off an old favorite, visit your local library, or power up your Kindle and get reading!

It's my dream to one day turn Every Day Should Pop! into a book, but I suppose this cake pop will have to do for now.

    Odie Day

    It's Odie Day!

Garfield Day was a couple months ago, so it's only fair that his pal, Odie, get a day of his own too.

Today marks the birth of Odie the Dog, Garfield's best friend, who first appeared on the comic on this day in 1978.
He's looking great at age 33.

If we're going to try and teach this old dog a new trick,
I say we teach him how to eat a cake pop!

    Celebrate with us!
Check out the Odie Tutorial to find out how to make this cute pup tonight.

    International Friendship Day

    Happy Friendship Day!

Through thick and thin, friends always have our backs and are by our sides. What a great reason to celebrate!

Take part in this international tradition by spending some time with your friends. Go to lunch, grab some coffee, or have a party!
Friendship Day is also a great reminder to call those friends that you don't see very often just to catch up.

So, what are you waiting for?
Get out there and let your friends know that they
    are truly appreciated!

    Lucille Ball Day

Celebrated every year for Lucille Ball's birthday,
this year's Lucille Ball Day just so happens to fall on her 100th birthday!

Born on August 6, 1911, LucillDésirée Ball was one of the world's most iconic, influential, and beloved actresses in film, TV, radio, and stage.
Perhaps best known for her classic TV shows like I Love Lucy, and many other "Lucy" inspired shows, Lucille Ball endured one of Hollywood's longest careers,
    garnering her countless awards.

Though she passed away on April 26, 1989,
her legacy and her shows will live on forever.
    Happy Birthday, Lucy!

    Wiggle Your Toes Day

    It's Wiggle Your Toes Day!

I actually used this picture on my "Go Barefoot Day" post,
but I thought it was cute enough to bring back and use again today.

So, I think it's time to get those toes out of your socks and shoes and let them stretch out a bit.
Walk barefoot through a grassy field or dance a little jig if you're so inclined.

Set your little piggies free and let them have some much needed wiggle room today!
    Enjoy!

    International Beer Day

Not to be confused with National Beer Day (4/7), International Beer Day takes the love of this
    beverage world wide.

Truly an event for the masses, today has been dubbed as a holiday of Beer, Adventure, and Glory!

Perhaps even more than the beverage itself, International Beer Day is about celebrating the establishments who produce it, sell it and give folks a place to enjoy it.

So, wherever you are, whether it be a pub, brewery or your own back yard, raise your glass, your can, or your frosty mug, and help us celebrate the heroes behind

    each tasty brew.

My favorite quote that I found in researching today's holiday
    is as follows:
"There aren't a lot of things the whole world agrees on, but enjoying Beer is one of them."
    I'll toast to that!

What do you have on tap today?

    National Underwear Day

The first National Underwear Day was in 2003, so today marks the 9th annual celebration!

Founded by Freshpair.com, National Underwear Day is aimed at focusing on the public's awareness of underwear in the spirit of grand celebration. This is the day when underwear becomes not just the first thing you put on and the last thing you take off, but the most important thing you wear all day.

So, do yourself (and everyone else) a favor, and make sure you're wearing a fresh pair!

To help give this whole underwear uprising a kick in the pants, we'll be celebrating today with our very own
    Bra Cake Pops!

    National Watermelon Day

    It's National Watermelon Day,
which means we get to celebrate a summertime favorite!

Did you know that the watermelon is comprised of 92% water? I guess that's why this fruit is such a refreshing picnic staple!

I learned that about 300 different varieties of watermelon exist in the U.S. and Mexico alone. Though I suppose with the addition of the Watermelon Cake Pop, we're going to have to make it 301!

    Tuesday's Tunes... U2

Today I'm featuring U2, my all-time favorite band in
    another edition of:
    Tuesday's Tunes!

Inspiration for today's cake arrangement came from U2's most popular, and my favorite, album:
    The Joshua Tree.
Now, I realize that I didn't exactly make a Joshua tree here. Instead, I decided to go with my own version of the cake pop tree (which actually works great as a centerpiece).
So, perhaps you can say that I created the very first
    Joshua Cake Pop Tree.
    How about that?

U2 has always been my favorite band.
Growing up I would say that they definitely provided the soundtrack to my house, if not my childhood. Which is almost certainly the reason I associate U2 and their early songs with my brother.
It's hard to explain what I like to much, except to say that whenever I'm unhappy, or can't decide what to listen to, as soon as I put in U2 everything just seems to be okay.

Unlike most musical acts U2 transcends time.
I don't think you can really place them in a particular era or musical genre because they're timeless and have continued to make great music for the last 30 years.

U2 will always have a special place in my heart.
So, today we give it up for The Edge, Clayton, Mullen,
    and of course Bono!

    Where were you in '87?

    National Ice Cream Sandwich Day

It’s National Ice Cream Sandwich Day!

On the beach or in an ice cream shop, these sweet sandwiches are always delicious.

Ice cream sandwiches come in many varieties. Traditionally, vanilla ice cream is tucked between two thin layers that resemble chocolate cake.

In the picture above I've created the traditional
ice cream sandwich cake pop, placed in actual
    Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwiches.
Both are tasty treats for hot summer days!

    Spider-Man Day

    Guess what, Friendly Neighborhood Readers?
    Today is Spider-Man Day!

Today marks Spider-Man's comic book debut.
He first appeared in the comic book Amazing Fantasy on this date in 1962. The series was canceled after that issue, but response to the character was so positive that a solo title, The Amazing Spider-Man was launched March 1963.

So, how will you celebrate today?
Will you dress up in a Spider-Man costume?
Randomly kiss redheads while hanging upside down?
Or maybe watch the Spidey movie trilogy tonight...
it's okay if you doze off during Spider-Man 3.

We'll be doing all of the above while eating
    Spider-Man cake pops!
